Lata Brandeis had been living a fairly carefree life before the Spectraclysm hit. She spent her time going to parties and generally having a good time, leaving the care of her two children to her parents. The Spectraclysm changed all that, however, when Mr. and Mrs. Brandeis were among the first to succumb to the spectral poisoning and Lata suddenly found herself solely responsible for her "indiscretions". Ever resourceful, she talked her sister Hefina into moving to Spectral Hills with them, thinking that surely she'd be able to talk her studious-minded sister into taking care of the kids while she got back to her parties. Hefina was wise to her sister's ways, but she agreed to move with her feeling that the children deserved to have someone who would pay attention to them if their mother didn't always. And so, together, they purchased a newly built house in the valley and moved in.

As the taxi dropped them off, Lata cuddled Georg for a moment while Hefina spent some time talking to her niece Shadya. After a few minutes, everyone headed inside.
